Huglith Mine |
||
Huglith Barytes MineHuglith was first worked in the early 19th century for copper, with activity at the site finishing by the 1860's. The mine was left until 1910 when the Wotherton Barytes & Lead Mining Company took an interest in the area. The scale of the workings still remained small with production levels below 1,000 tons a year. After passing through the ownership of various companies the mine became the property of the Malehurst Barytes Co. Ltd., this company invested in the mine and increased output until the mine became the largest barytes mine in Shropshire. By the time it closed, in 1945, the total recorded quantity of mineral excavated was just under 300,000 tons.
